MILWAUKEE – Freshman Julian Sonn and senior Jimmy Carrington of the MSOE baseball team have been named all-region by the American Baseball Coaches Association, the coaches' association announced this week.
Sonn was named to the All-Midwest Second Team at designated hitter and Carrington was picked for the third team in the outfield.
Sonn was a force in the Raiders' lineup in his first full collegiate season. He bounced back from a season-ending injury last season to bat .339 in 44 games, all starts, with a team-best 42 runs batted in. He knocked out 11 doubles and three home runs this season. In league play, he drove in 24 runs over 20 games, hitting .354 against NACC competition with a pair of home runs.
Carrington was named all-region for the second-straight season after being named to the ABCA's third team last season, as well. He finished the season strong to post a .307 batting average with five home runs and 40 runs batted in. He was second on the team with 36 runs scored in 42 games played. The season capped off a tremendous career as he graduates as the program's leader in career hits (209), RBIs (133), and total bases (304).
Senior Ryan Newman was named to the D3baseball All-Region First Team on Monday, giving MSOE three all-region honorees this season. It's a fitting an for the Raiders as they wrapped up an impressive 2018 campaign. The team set a school record with 25 wins—an unprecedented third-straight 20-win season posted its highest-ever NACC finish (tied for second), qualified for a third-straight NACC Tournament for the third-straight season, and finished in the top three at the tourney for the third-straight season.
