FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Josh Beier (Mount Horeb, Wis. / Mount Horeb) had four hits and Nick Gross (Brookfield, Wis. / Marquette) got on base five different times, but it wasn't enough to get a win against Marion on Monday afternoon.
Game One (10 innings)
MSOE Raiders – 5
Marian – 6
MSOE Raiders – 2
Marian – 6
HOW IT HAPPENED
MSOE (7-17, 4-6 NACC) never led during the first ballgame, as Marian (13-8, 5-5 NACC) got the ball rolling in the bottom of the third with a two-run single after an errant throw to first base put ducks on the pond with only one out. The Raiders got one back in the top of the fourth, only to have the Sabres negate the addition in the bottom half. MU plated another run in the seventh, and each team scored in the eighth to send us to the ninth with the score of 5-3. The Raiders rallied, scoring two runs on an Aaron Trattner (Glendale, Wis. / Nicolet) single and a Josh Beier sacrifice fly to send the game into extras. Unfortunately, this is where the scoring stopped for MSOE, as the Marian leadoff home run ended the game, leading to a Sabres 6-5 win.
The Red & White were in control for most of game two, getting a pair of runs in the third and fourth inning to lead 2-1 going into the second half of the ballgame. It looked like the Raiders were on their way to a 1-1 day, heading into the bottom of the eighth still up 2-1. That was until Marian scored five runs off of four hits and one error in their second to last at bats. MSOE got one on in the top of the ninth, but couldn't do anything with it in the 6-2 loss.
The Red & White defense has been shaky as of late, committing a total of five errors in their last three games.
