RIVER FOREST, Illinois - The MSOE men's basketball team jumped out to a 36-5 lead and never looked back in defeating Dominican 69-49 Saturday afternoon at Igini Sports Forum.
For the second time this week, the Raiders (10-5, 9-2 NACC) built a 30-point lead and coasted to victory, first against Concordia Chicago Tuesday and this time on the road against the Stars (4-10, 2-8 NACC).
Sophomore Matthew Kirmse scored a game-high 21 points, outscoring the home team on is own in the first half, 15-12. He and senior Nolan Henton hit four 3-pointers each, with the latter doing so on five attempts on his way to 13 points. Junior Jason Palesse added 11 points.
Domenec Aiello scored 16 points and Jonny Wolf 13, both off the bench, to lead Dominican.
MSOE had a modest 5-2 lead when it scored the next 11 points to take control of the game. The Stars would answer with a three-pointer, but the Red & White then responded with the game's next 20 points to open a 36-5 lead with 3:16 remaining before halftime. DU ended the frame on a 7-2 run for a 38-12 score at halftime.
The home team would forge a six-point advantage in points after the intermission, but the result was never in doubt.
The Raiders shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and limited the Stars to just 4-of-25. The Red & White finished at 43.6 percent for the day, including 9-for-19 from three-point range. Dominican improved to 31.6 percent overall by the game's end and hit on 6-of-24 from beyond the arc.
MSOE has won four-straight games since the calendar turned to 2018 and sits in first place in the NACC standings. The team returns to action Wednesday at Concordia Wisconsin.
