Boynton Named NCHA Defensive Player of the Week

MILWAUKEE – Freshman Rock Boynton of the nationally-ranked MSOE hockey team has been named the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week for Nov. 27, the league office announced Tuesday.

Boynton led the Raiders to a 1-0-1 record last weekend at the UW-Stevens Point Holiday Tournament, allowing just three goals with 74 saves in 125 minutes of action in goal. He stopped 42 shots in a 2-2 draw with the host, No. 10/8 Pointers on Friday. MSOE then downed UW-Stout 3-1 on Saturday behind 32 saves from Boynton.

The Lomita, California, native has started the last three games with a 1.30 GAA, a .962 save percentage, and 100 saves in 185 minutes.

The Raiders are ranked No. 11 in the USCHO national poll and No. 13 by D3hockey.com. They return to the ice this weekend against Lake Forest Friday at the Kern Center and on the road at Aurora Saturday.
