MILWAUKEE – Senior Zach Woodman made 25 saves in the No. 13 MSOE hockey team's 3-1 loss to Lawrence Friday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (8-5-1, 4-3 NCHA) were coming off a 2-1 victory over No. 1 St. Norbert Tuesday but could not carry over the momentum in falling behind the Vikings (6-7-1, 4-3 NCHA) by two goals heading into the final period.
Senior Jerad Tafoya pulled a goal back for MSOE in the third period but that was as close as the team would get.
The Raiders outshot Lawrence 40-27 in the game and saw a shot hit the pipe in the second period off the stick of junior Michael Romund.
LU opened the scoring on a quick shot after a face-off in the second period, taking a 1-0 lead at 4:14 of the frame. The visitors then doubled their advantage on a counter-attack opportunity nearly 11 minutes later.
Tafoya would light the lamp for the Red & White at 5:53 of the third period to make it a ball game. Senior James Ring pushed the puck out from behind the net to freshman Will Gauthier, who found Tafoya in front of the goal for the score.
MSOE would continue to push for the equalizer, taking 15 shots in the third period and pulling Woodman for an extra attacker with just under 56 seconds to go in regulation. Lawrence capitalized on the empty net to cap the scoring with 3.6 seconds remaining.
The Raiders return to the ice Saturday, hosting Marian.
