MILWAUKEE – The No. 13 MSOE hockey team suffered a second-consecutive 3-1 defeat, this time at the hands of Marian, Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (8-6-1, 4-4 NCHA) trailed the Sabres (10-3-1, 5-3 NCHA) 3-0 before pulling a goal back less than a minute into the third period but could edge any closer.
Marian got on the board just 61 seconds into the game before adding a pair of goals in the second period to extend their lead.
In the third period, the Raiders came out in a flurry, with a diagonal cross-ice pass from sophomore Evan Kearns deflecting to Romund near the red line. He got a stick on the puck and saw his shot re-directed into the net for the team's first goal. Freshman Adam Ostrowski also had an assist on the play.
MSOE looked to remain aggressive throughout, but struggled to break down the Sabres' defense. The home team pulled its goalie for the extra attacker inside the final minute but was whistled for a penalty after 28 seconds to thwart that chance.
MU held a 39-25 shot advantage in the game and both teams came up empty on four man advantages.
The Raiders return to action next weekend, hitting the road for a cross-division trip to Northland next Friday and St. Scholastica Saturday.
