Owens' Goal Helps Hockey Force Draw at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Illinois – Freshman Stian Owens scored his first collegiate goal with just over five minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime as the MSOE hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with Lake Forest Friday evening at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.

The Raiders (9-9-2, 5-7-1 NCHA) got strong goaltending from senior Zach Woodman on the night but the Foresters (11-8-1, 8-4-1 NCHA) still took the lead with a power play goal late in the second period before Owens' equalizer.

Woodman finished with 24 saves on the night.

Trailing 1-0, MSOE pushed for the equalizer and got in during a period of 4-on-4 hockey. Freshman Garrett Gintoli and senior Zach Simpson assisted on the goal, which came just 5:12 before the final horn.

It was almost all Raiders in the extra period, as the visitors put six shots on goal in just five minutes to threaten for the winner. Unfortunately, the LFC defense was up to the task and held on for the tie.

MSOE held a 37-25 shot advantage for the game, including 6-2 in overtime. Louis-Philippe De Courcy made 36 saves for Lake Forest.

The Foresters struck for the opening goal at 17:55 of the second period, with Bron Loiselle lighting the lamp while his team had the man advantage.

The Raiders return to the ice Saturday, hosting Aurora at the Kern Center. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
