Hockey Can’t Recover in Loss to CUW

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE hockey team conceded back-to-back goals at the end of the first period and could not recover in falling to Concordia Wisconsin 3-1 Friday night at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (10-10-2, 6-8-1 NCHA) dominated the opening portion of the game, taking the first 11 shots of the game, but the Falcons (14-6-2, 10-5 NCHA) emerged the first period with a 2-0 lead and never looked back.

Sophomore Nick Redmon pulled a goal back for MSOE 5:28 into the second period before CUW canceled that score out in a matter of 1:15 to re-establish the two-goal advantage.

The Falcons opened the scoring at 16:21 of the first period and doubled their lead just 1:06 later with the eventual game-winner.

Redmon's goal came off assists from senior Chris Hinrichs and sophomore Evan Kearns. It looked like it would get the Raiders back in the game but CUW responded quickly to stifle the comeback attempt.

MSOE did not go down without a fight, outshooting the visitors in each of the final two periods, including the closing minutes of regulation when the Red & White put four shots on target despite playing down a man due to a penalty.

The Raiders finished with a 38-22 advantage in shots and both teams killed off four power plays on the night.

Senior Zach Woodman stopped 19 shots in goal for MSOE.

The weekend series wraps up Saturday at Concordia Wisconsin. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
