ADRIAN, Michigan – The MSOE hockey team saw its season come to an end with a 6-3 defeat at the hands of No. 1 Adrian in the second game of a Harris Cup Quarterfinal series Saturday afternoon at Arrington Ice Arena.
The Raiders (11-14-2) answered each of the Bulldogs (23-4) first three goals before the home team scored three unanswered goals to take the game.
Senior Zach Woodman stopped a season-high 41 shots on the day.
Adrian opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period, lighting the lamp in the final minute of the frame at 19:07.
The score remained 1-0 for much of the second half before Gauthier tied the game at 11:16. He was assisted by Gintoli and freshman Stian Owens.
The Bulldogs answered just over three minutes later while on the power play but Gintoli leveled the score once again with a power play scored of his own at 16:07. Gauthier set up the goal this time.
Taylor Cloy netted a third-period hat trick for the home team, scoring his first for another Adrian lead 3:01 into the final frame. It was the first of three goals in a 2:26 span for the two teams. Ring followed with the team's second man-advantage goal at 4:50, with an assist from senior Jerad Tafoya, and McCloy responded once more at 5:27 for the eventual game-winner.
Goals at 14:45 and an empty-netter at 18:20 sealed the game for the Bulldogs and advanced them to next weekend's Harris Cup Semifinals.
Woodman capped his career second in save percentage (.917), just 0.003 off the school record, as well as among the program's all-time leaders in minutes played (2,405 – 3rd), goals against average (2.55 – 3rd), and saves (1,128 – 4th).
