Defense Strong for Hockey Despite Loss at #9 Adrian

ADRIAN, Michigan – Sophomore Rock Boynton made 37 saves for the MSOE hockey team but No. 9 Adrian netted the go-ahead goal midway through the third period in a 3-1 defeat Friday evening at Arrington Arena.

The Raiders (6-9-3, 4-5-2 NCHA) had scored first but was unable to hold back the Bulldogs' (12-5-1, 7-3-1 NCHA) relentless attack after the first intermission.

Junior Zack Davis was the goal-scorer for MSOE as he opened the scoring with an assist from sophomore David Marabella just 5:09 into the game. It was a part of an opening period that saw the Red & White hold a 10-8 shot advantage.

Adrian regrouped after the first break, outshooting the Raiders 20-6 in the second period and netting the equalizer at the 6:10 mark. The hosts had the momentum for the rest of the night and broke through for the eventual game-winner at 10:47 of the third period. Adrian then iced the game with an empty-net goal with four seconds to play.

Boynton seemed up to the task in goal, posting his second-highest save total and limiting the league's top-scoring team to just two goals.

The Bulldogs finished with the 40-21 advantage in shots on the night. Neither team was able to capitalize on a power play, combining to kill off all five man advantages.

MSOE continues its league road trip Saturday at Trine.
