RIPON, Wisconsin – Freshman Rade Novakovich scored all four goals and a 4-1 rout by the MSOE men's soccer team at Ripon Saturday afternoon.
The Raiders (2-2) put together a convincing performance, outshooting the Redhawks (0-3) 31-5 in the match while putting 17 shots on target.
Novakovich opened his day in just the fourth minute and netted his hat trick before halftime. He then tacked on the fourth for the game's lone goal of the second half. The Muskego native took nine shots on the afternoon, putting six on target.
It was just the third four-plus goal game for MSOE since 2004, while tied for second in school history for goals in a game. The last Raider to score four times in one match was Braden Andryk on Sept. 6 of last season.
Novakovich's opener was assisted by sophomore Joey Schauer and came just 3:10 after the opening whistle.
Ripon would pull level in the 12th minute before MSOE ran away with the match.
Novakovich put his side ahead for good in the 38th minute and struck again 1:49 later to complete the hat trick. Then, as the Raiders continued to pile on the Redhawk defense in the second half, to the tune of a 19-1 shot advantage, he picked up goal No. 4 in the 74th minute.
Freshman Ron Marchionna made his second-straight start in goal, going all 90 minutes with two saves.
MSOE returns to action Tuesday, hosting Maranatha at Viets Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
