MILWAUKEE – Home sweet home. For the first time in the 2019 season, the MSOE men's soccer team kicked off in the friendly confines of Viets Field. With just a lone tie to their record to date, the Raiders struck early to set the tone in their first victory of the season.
Ripon – 0
MSOE – 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
MSOE (1-0-1) started off their match against Ripon (0-3-0) in pretty much the best way possible. With just over a minute and a half elapsed off the game clock, Drew Baumann took a pass from teammate Zach Blaire and deposited it behind the Red Hawks netminder to take the very early 1-0 lead. The Raiders would get the majority of their shots off in the first 45 minutes, taking 12 of their 18 attempts before halftime. They wouldn't score again until the 83' however, but Joey Schauer and Baumann made sure that Lucas D'Amato could get in on the action, icing the game with less than eight minutes remaining.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Raiders were nothing short than outstanding. Ripon was only able to get a total of three shots off within the regulation time. Goalkeeper Patrick Grund was left standing around without much action, as the Red Hawks failed to get a shot on goal in the 2-0 MSOE victory.
Rob Harrington officially has a win to his name. The first-year coach secured his initial victory with the Raiders, guiding them safely through two games thus far.
