KENOSHA, Wisconsin – The MSOE men's track & field team got event wins from senior Michael Van Alstyne and the 4x400m relay on its way to second place at the Green & White Invitational, hosted by UW-Parkside Saturday.
The Raiders scored 111.5 team points to easily claim runners-up over third-place North Park with 56.5. The Division II host Rangers took first with 144.
Van Alstyne won the 400m and added a second-place finish in the long jump to highlight the day. He ran 53.39 in posting his win and was joined on the scorers' podium by junior Ian Stanosek-Rockwell in seventh place with a time of 57.67. In the long jump, he leapt 20-8 for second place, ahead of sophomore McCoy Swanson in fifth with a distance of 18-5 1/4.
Meanwhile, the 4x400m relay combined on a time of 3:37.79.
MSOE racked up points with strong team showings in the middle distance events, placing four scorers in both the 800m and mile. The Raiders also had five scoring performances over the two throwing events.
In the 800m, junior Trey Horbinski was the lead runner in third with a time of 2:00.77 while his twin brother, junior Tripp Horbinski, was fifth in 2:06.50. Freshman Brian Bostwick ran 2:08.54 for seventh and junior Collin Rink was eighth in 2:09.60.
Junior Hail Kazik paced the mile contingent, also taking third. He finished the event in 4:56.46 to lead Raiders in third, fourth and fifth. Freshman Nathan Arrigoni came next in 4:59.56, edging sophomore Kenny Holbrook in 5:00.49. Junior Jon Ashley crossed the finish in 5:03.66 and was eighth.
Freshmen Derek Schrimpf and Brendon DeMille each scored in both the shot put and weight throw, while freshman Nathaniel Barry joined the duo on the podium in the weight throw. In the shot, Schrimpf threw 36-11 for third place and DeMille was seventh at 33-9 1/2. Barry was the top finisher in the weight throw with a distance of 30-11 3/4 in fourth place. He narrowly edged Schimpf by less than an inch as he took fifth at 30-11. DeMille placed sixth after throwing 30-2.
Rink also scored in the high jump, taking fifth with a height of 5-3, while senior Jordan Luce tied for third at 5-7. Senior Austin Wright rounded out the team's scorers in the 3000m, taking fourth. He followed three Parkside runners with a time of 9:06.49.
MSOE is back in action next Saturday at the Pointer Invitational in Stevens Point.
