KENOSHA, Wisconsin – Senior Austin Wright won the 3000m and was runner-up in the mile run to lead the MSOE men's track & field team in action at the 2017 NACC Indoor Championship Saturday at Carthage College.
The Raiders finished fifth as a team with 35 points, just two back of fourth place.
Wright had a memorable day, which began with a second-place finish in the mile run. His time of 4:21.76 was just 0.91 seconds off first place. He then came back to post a time of 8:57.21 in the 3000m to take first place and edge the runner-up by just 0.64 seconds.
Wright was joined on the scorer's stand in the mile by freshman Nick Bath, who ran 4:43.31 for eighth place.
Junior Hail Kazik scored in the 5000m and the Raiders posted top-five finishes in each relay event to round out track scoring at the meet. Kazik ran a time of 16:33.15 in the 5K and took eighth. The distance medley ran a time of 11:16.82 for third place and was comprised of junior Collin Rink and freshmen Blake Bostwick, Nathan Arrigoni, and Hagen Opitz.
Junior Conner Enciso made his season debut in the pole vault and scored with a sixth-place showing. Just a week after the end of his season with the MSOE hockey team, Enciso was in action for the Raiders on the runway, posting a final height of 12-5 1/2.
Van Alstyne rounded out the scorers, taking seventh in the triple jump. He leaped 43-7 in the event and was joined in the top-10 by Luce, who had a distance of 40-2 1/4. Both athletes also had top-10 finishes in other events. Van Alstyne placed ninth in the long jump with a jump of 21-7 1/4 and Luce cleared a height of 5-8 for 10th in the high jump.
Bostwick also had a top-10 finish, taking 10th in the 800m with a time of 2:05.53.
The indoor season will continue for some at last chance qualifiers next weekend.
