BELOIT, Wisconsin – Senior Austin Wright won multiple events for the second-straight weekend and broke a meet record in the process as the MSOE men's track & field team placed fifth at the Beloit Relays Friday and Saturday at Strong Stadium.
The Raiders scored 73 points to finish within 6.5 points of third place and 14 points ahead of sixth.
Wright set a meet record in winning the 3000m steeplechase and led four MSOE runners in scoring positions in the process. He ran 9:48.17 to lower the Beloit Relays standard from 9:48.48. Junior Trey Horbinski was just off his pace, finishing second in 9:50.54. Senior Nick Avila finished fifth in 10:04.58 and junior Tripp Horbinski also scored in seventh place with a time of 10:13.93.
Wright threw 142-10 to win the javelin by 15 feet, seven inches and added a win in the 1500m with a time of 4:10.99. Freshman Nick Bath also scored, placing 10th with a time of 4:24.65.
The Raiders scored three competitors in two other events, as well. Senior Michael Van Alstyne led a contingent in the long jump, taking third with a leap of 20-1. Freshman Avery Bobo was eighth at 19-0 3/4 and freshman McCoy Swanson jumped 18-9 for ninth. Swanson led a trio of scorers in the 400m, placing sixth with a time of 55.55. Junior Ian Stanosek-Rockwood finished seventh in 57.06 and senior Justin Johnson was eighth in 57.83.
In the relays, the Red & White took fourth in the 4x800m and fifth in the 4x100m. In the 4x800, junior Collin Rink was joined by Bath and freshmen Blake Bostwick and Hagen Opitz on a time of 8:36.62. Van Alstyne, Swanson, senior Devon Searfoss, and freshman Ben Giese posted a time of 46.70 in the 4x100.
