Rowing Dominates Milwaukee Open Regatta

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE rowing team won each of its varsity races, including the five fastest boats in the Varsity 4's to open the spring portion of its schedule at the Milwaukee Open Regatta Saturday morning on the Milwaukee River.

The Raiders had the two fastest crews in the three-boat Varsity 8 race and saw wins by the two Novice entries in the four-man and eight-man competitions.

MSOE's 'A' crew won the Varsity 4 with a time of 2:48.89, just one second ahead of the 'C' entry in the nest heat at 2:49.89. The 'B' boat rowed to a time of 2:58.98 for third overall, and the 'D' boat finished in 2:59.90. A Lightweight 4 entry then finished in 3:03.22 to with the third heat, ahead of Marquette. An entry from Northwestern rounded out the field and competed in the second heat.

The Varsity 8 was another sweep for a pair of Raider crews. The 'A' entry posted a time of 2:35.42 to win the race, ahead of the 'B' crew in 2:45.78. Northwestern took third in 3:16.87.

The novice team also had a pair of strong races, In the Novice 4, the boat finished in 3:09.53, over seven seconds ahead of Marquette. In the Novice 8, the difference was over 18 seconds between the Red & White crew (2:45.00) in first and the Marquette entry in second.

The women's team went third in the Varsity 4 race, finishing in 3:39.37, and formed a boat with members of the St. Norbert team to take second in the Women's 8, just 0.21 seconds back of Marquette with a time of 3:20.50.

MSOE returns to the water next Saturday at the Madison Regatta.
