MERCER, New Jersey – The MSOE rowing team saw its Varsity 4 advance to the 4th Final at the IRA Championships and will aim for the crew's best-ever national finish when it competes in the heat Sunday morning on Mercer Lake.
The Raiders were fourth in their opening heat, finishing behind Princeton, Wisconsin, and MIT with a time of 6:53.333. From there, the boat advanced to Repechage 4 for its place in the semifinals. In that heat, MSOE finished fourth again behind boats from Cal, Brown, and Jacksonville.
On Saturday, the Red & White took fourth in its semifinal, earning a place in the 4th Final. In that race, the Raiders rowed 6:53.186 to defeat Syracuse for the second time but finish behind Navy, MIT, and Marietta.
The crew of seniors Robert Lancaster, Seth LiaBraaten, Chris Gloeckle, coxswain Francis Sena, and junior Jonah Meffert is shooting for the program's best finish in a Varsity 4 competition. They will square off against the Orange for the third time, as well as Fairfield, which they beat in the opening heat. Rounding out the final will be Pennsylvania. MSOE has posted better times than the three other boats through each of the first three heats of the regatta.
The IRA 4th Final will start at approximately 9:18 a.m. on Sunday.
