MILWAUKEE - Heading into their first ever NCAA tournament appearance, MSOE softball decided to pick up a few more accolades along the way. Pitcher Emily Wiederholt (Cuba City, Wis. / Cuba City) and first baseman Amanda Manssen (Bull Valley, Ill. / McHenry West) have been named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Softball Student-Athletes of the Week for week of April 29-May 5, 2019, as selected by the league's sports information directors.
Wiederholt started all three games of MSOE's NACC tournament title run in the circle and was nothing short than dominate. She scattered just three hits and four walks while allowing a single unearned run and striking out five over 10 innings pitched. She heads into Thursday's matchup against Calvin College with a 1.86 ERA, while striking out 5.88 batters per seven innings pitched.
Manssen was a beast at the plate, putting together a slash line of .714/.788/.857 in three games at the conference tournament, helping lead the Raiders offense to a perfect 3-0 mark and the program's first tournament title. She finished the week with a double, a stolen base, two walks drawn, three RBIs and three runs scored. In the championship final against Marian alone, Manssen went 2-for-2 with an RBI, two walks and two runs scored. She currently leads the Red & White with a .441 average and a .481 on base percentage.
The Red & Whites inaugural NCAA tournament game will start at Noon on Thursday, with the No. 3 seed Raiders playing as the away team against No. 2 Calvin.
