MILWAUKEE – Senior Holly Denfeld posted a double-double and the MSOE women's basketball team shot just under 50 percent as it rolled to a decisive 65-48 victory over Marian Monday afternoon at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (8-11, 5-9 NACC) faced one tie with the Sabres (3-16, 2-12 NACC) before quickly taking the lead for good with a nine-point run.
Denfeld posted 21 points on an efficient 9-for-12 shooting and pulled down 11 rebounds as she draws closer to 1,000 boards for her career. She now sits at 987 after tonight.
Brandi Bender scored a team-high 15 points for Marian, followed by 11 points apiece from Briana Horton and Nicole Paulus.
There was one tie in the game when MSOE scored the first four points of the game and the Sabres answered with four points of their own. The Raiders then scored the next nine points and never looked back.
A 16-4 run, including the first six points of the second half, made it 45-23 and ostensibly put the game out of reach. The Red & White advantage peaked at 61-37 with 7:23 remaining in the game.
The Raiders were shooting over 50 percent for most of the night before cooling off a bit late and settling at 49 percent. They hit on 8-of-19 three-point attempts, including 6-for-10 in the first half as they started to pull away. Rebounding was key, as the Red & White held a robust 46-22 advantage, which helped offset a 22-8 deficit in turnovers.
Marian shot 33.3 percent on the night, attempting just six 3-pointers (making two).
MSOE faces a short turnaround as part of a three-game week, hosting Edgewood at the Kern Center Wednesday.
