Women’s Basketball Suffers Setback at CUW

MEQUON, Wisconsin – Senior Jamie Spanbauer scored 15 points to lead the MSOE women's basketball in action Tuesday night, a 65-50 loss to Concordia Wisconsin at Buuck Fieldhouse.

The Raiders (11-11, 9-8 NACC) led 20-12 in the second quarter but could not hold off the Falcons (15-6, 13-3 NACC).

Spanbauer hit on three 3-pointers to lead the way. Senior Rachel Ruona added eight points and junior Brooke Scott chipped in seven points off the bench.

Kaitlyn Foster led CUW with 20 points, thanks to a 12-for-12 effort at the free throw line. Ashley Solberg had 13 points and Clara Chambers finished with 10.

MSOE had the better of Concordia in the early going of the game, rattling off a 9-3 run to close out the first quarter for a 10-8 lead. The teams traded buckets, the Red & White went on another 7-2 run to open a 20-12 lead with 4:36 remaining in the first half.

Unfortunately, the Falcons answered with 10-straight points over the remainder of the half for a 22-20 lead at the midway point. It was the final lead change of the game as CUW used another seven-point run in the third quarter to push its lead to double-digits.

The Raiders were able to pull within seven points on several occasions in the fourth quarter but could get no closed as Concordia went 10-for-13 at the charity stripe over the final period.

MSOE shot 32.2 percent from the field, including a 4-for-12 effort from three-point range. The team also forged a 42-31 rebounding advantage, including 15 offensive boards. The Falcons, meanwhile, finished at 35.3 percent overall and just 2-of-15 from beyond the arc. The hosts got to the free throw line 30 times with 26 made against an 8-for-11 showing by the Red & White.

The Raiders return to the floor Saturday at Alverno.
