ELMHURST, Ill. – Participating in a rare mid-week non-conference matchup, the MSOE Raiders women's tennis team headed to the Chicago suburbs to take on Elmhurst. Unfortunately, the results were less than to be desired, coming home with an 8-1 loss.
The only competitive match in doubles action was in the number one spot, where Katie Clements (La Crosse, Wis./Aquinas) and Cierra Smith (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) lost to their counterparts 8-4. The other two defeats that MSOE (8-12, 6-4 NACC) were handed by the Blue Jays ended in scores of 8-1 and 8-2.
Elmhurst (8-6, 4-4 CCIW) also took control of the singles portion of the competition, winning all but two matches in minimum sets. Kim Baffin (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) battled in the No. 6 spot but ended up falling to her counterpart Bridget Lopez in a third set tiebreak 6-4, 0-6, 3-10. The lone victory for the Red & White came in the No. 3 position, where Smith easily dispatched Davey Maglaque in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.
The Raiders will continue their spring slate on April 24th, when they head to Chicago to take on North Park.
