Huddleston, Virginia – The MSOE triathlon team qualified for the NCAA Championships as a full squad by taking second among Division III teams at the East Regional Qualifier Saturday morning at Smith Mountain Lake State Park.
The Raiders finished second among the Division III teams with 99 points. North Central topped the division with 52 points while Concordia Wisconsin was third with 119. Millikin rounded out the Division III teams in the competition in fourth with 129 points.
Freshman Kendall Marks was the team's top finisher for the first time this season, posting a time of 1:08:56. She posted another strong swimming time with a team-best 9:58 and was just a second off the team's best time in the 5000m with her time of 20:21.
Junior Rachel Ruona was right behind Marks, taking sixth at 1:10.47. She excelled in the bike with a time of 22:23 before posting a 20:20 in the 5K. The pair was 27th and 31st overall, including Division I and II triathletes.
Senior Alex Muench, freshman Morgan Traughber, and sophomore Riley Rossbach rounded out the finishers. Muench posted a time of 1:19:53 for 18th while Traughber placed 21st in 1:23:37. Rossback finished in 1:26:38 for 23rd place.
The Raiders compete next at the Collegiate Varsity National Championships Nov. 4 in Tempe, Arizona.
