Women’s Volleyball Suffers a Pair of Losses Saturday

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's volleyball team dropped a pair of three-set matches on the second and final day of the MSOE Invitational Saturday at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (5-4) opened their day with a 25-21, 25-21, 27-25 loss to Maranatha (6-2) before a 25-20, 25-22, 25-19 decision against UW-Platteville (5-4) in the final match of the tournament.

A trio of Red & White players had seven kills against the Sabercats in the opener, with senior Hannah Pekarek adding 11 digs to her tally. Freshman Quinn Borchert formed a dynamic blocking pair with sophomore Megan Brock. The former registered seven kills and the duo combined on four blocks.

Freshman Italia Fields rounded out the leading scorers.

Claire Hansel led MBU with 10 kills and Karley Johnson added nine.

MSOE hit .090 in the match with five service aces and six blocks. The Sabercats hit .185 and had just three aces and one block.

In the second match, junior Sarah Williams led the team with eight kills and Pekarek added seven. Freshman Bekah Smith got her first start at libero and finished with 18 digs while senior Julia Zeamer had three aces and Borchert a match-best four blocks for other strong performances.

CJ Johnson led the Pioneers with a triple-double of 11 kills, 16 assists, and 15 digs. She was joined in double-digits digs by Olivia Kudronowicz, who boasted a double-double of 12 kills and 17 digs.

The Raiders attacked at a .096 rate against .228 for UW-Platteville.

MSOE kicks off conference play with a mid-week road match at Marian Wednesday.
