Women’s Volleyball Goes Down Swinging vs. Dominican

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's volleyball team hit just under .200 and got off to a strong start on the night but could not hold off Dominican in a 20-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-18 loss Tuesday night at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (7-11, 1-4 NACC) jumped out ahead but fell victim to late rallies by the Stars (12-6, 4-1 NACC) on more than one occasion.

Senior Hannah Pekarek finished with 12 kills and 13 digs to lead the Red & White. Freshman Quinn Borchert had 10 kills and four blocks while junior Sarah Williams chipped in nine kills on the night.

Gillian Jones led Dominican with 14 kills and 18 digs. Gabija Sinickaite added 12 kills and Summer Smith had 10.

MSOE got the night off on the right foot with runs of 5-1 and 6-1 putting the home side ahead 14-6 in the opening game. The lead would expand to nine at 20-11 on three-straight Red & White points. Every point proved critical, as DU staved off six set points to make it close before the Raiders could close out the frame.

The match followed a similar script in game two, as a 9-2 run propelled MSOE to another 20-11 lead. Dominican battled back, however, rattling the next five points to kick-start a 15-4 run. The stretch included the Red & White reaching set point at 24-19 only for the Stars to score seven-straight points to even the match at 1-1.

The momentum shifted to the visitors for the third set, as DU broke open a one-point game with a 10-3 run to open an 18-10 lead. The Raiders would later make a 6-1 run to pull within 21-18 but that was as close as they would get down the stretch.

Another Dominican run turned the tides of the final set of the night. This time, it was a 6-0 spurt for an early 9-8 lead. MSOE would pull within one with three-straight points but could not overtake the Stars.

The Raiders hit .199 on the night with 47 kills against 20 errors. DU finished at .217 with 52 kills.

The Raiders return to the floor Friday night at Edgewood.
