MADISON, Wisconsin – Freshman Quinn Borchert had 12 kills and five blocked to lead the MSOE women's volleyball team in action at Edgewood Friday night at the Edgedome, a 25-21, 22-25, 25-15, 25-17 defeat.
The Raiders (7-12, 1-5 NACC) hung with the Eagles (8-12, 5-3 NACC) early, splitting the first two sets before the home team pulled away in the match.
Borchert posted her third-straight double-digit kill effort, eclipsing her season-high for a match. She also had better than four blocks for the third-straight match.
Edgewood had three players top 10 kills, led by a double-double of 13 kills and 12 digs from Sarah Pfeifer. Mackenzie Doherty and Erika Van Engen had 11 kills each.
The opening set was a tight affair, with MSOE holding the edge for most of the frame. The team last led at 20-18 before the Eagles put together a 7-1 run to win the set. The tables were turned in the second game as it was the Raiders playing from behind. They found themselves down 20-18 late before finishing on a 7-2 run to even the match.
In the third game, the Red & White led early at 8-7 before EC seized the momentum with four-straight points to take the lead. It was just a two-point deficit at 14-12 when Edgewood went on an extended 11-3 run to finish off the game. Much like the first two sets, the latter two were very similar. MSOE led 9-7 in the fourth when the Eagles geared up for another run. Four-straight points gave them the lead and they steadily pulled away down the stretch to close out the match.
The Red & White hit .084 for the night with 34 kills in 131 attacks. The Eagles had 51 kills and hit .174. They were also propelled by 18 service aces in the match.
The Raiders return to the court Saturday, hosting Illinois Tech.
