LISLE, Illinois – Senior Hannah Pekarek posted a double-double and the MSOE women's volleyball team captured the third set in a 25-14, 26-24, 20-25, 25-19 defeat at the hands of Benedictine Saturday afternoon at the Rice Center.
The Raiders (8-14, 2-7 NACC) had five different players notch at least five kills in the match with the Eagles (13-8, 5-3 NACC).
Taylor Dunwell led three players with double-digit kills for BenU, notching 17 to go with 11 digs. Brooke Huizenga and Molly Stock registered 10 kills each.
MSOE got off to a strong start in the match, scoring six of the first eight points. The Eagles then roared back with a 17-3 run to take control of the opening set. The Raiders shook off the loss in game two, batting with the hosts throughout before pulling away late with a 6-1 run to go to set point at 24-22. Unfortunately, Benedictine rallied with four-straight points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Raiders once again shook off the defeat and played from ahead throughout the third set. They never trailed and, once the Eagles pulled within 19-18, they closed out the frame with a 6-2 run.
In the decisive fourth game, MSOE rattled off five-straight points to pull within 12-11 before a 10-3 run seemingly put the win out of reach at 22-14. The Raiders did put up a late fight with a 5-2 run but it was too late.
The Raiders hit .167 for the match with 43 kills in 126 attacks. The Eagles finished with 49 kills and a .215 attack percentage.
MSOE returns to the court Tuesday against Alverno at the Kern Center.
