Women's Volleyball Ends Season on Winning Note at WLC

MILWAUKEE – Freshman Shayla Hertzke hit .800 and had six blocks to lead the MSOE women's volleyball team to a 19-25, 25-20, 27-25, 26-24 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran in the final match of the Warrior Invitational Saturday at the Recreation Complex.

The Raiders (10-19) avenged a four-set defeat at the hands of the Warriors (18-11) from just eight days ago and capped their season on a winning note. It was MSOE's second match of the day as it fell to UW-River Falls 25-15, 25-10, 25-23 in the day's first match.

Against WLC, Herttzke played a key role in the middle in just her second collegiate match. She notched eight kills on her 10 attacks without an error while also clogging the net for the Warriors attack. Sophomore Megan Brock finished with a team-high 13 kills to go with 10 digs. She chipped in four blocks, as well.

Everyone who played in the match was in their first or second year in the program and most were seeing their first extended time. Freshman Haley Jensen picked up 11 kills and eight digs in her fifth match of the season and freshman Ashley Hancock finished with seven kills in the match.

Abby Hackbarth led Wisconsin Lutheran with 12 kills.

MSOE hit .133 with 44 kills over the four sets. Meanwhile, WLC had 41 kills and hit .119.

In the opener, 13 different players saw the floor, with senior Hannah Pekarek and freshman Quinn Borchert finishing with a team-high five kills each. Four other players had three kills apiece to account for nearly all 23 kills in the match.

UWRF outhit the Raiders .218 to .119 in the match, with just 14 errors among 101 attacks. Dakota Poitra led the way with 10 kills and 10 digs. Karli Nielsen added nine kills of her own.
