MILWAUKEE – The cardiac kids have done it again. MSOE played their fifth five set match of the season, which accounts for almost half their games played. The final result is what matters though, and once again they find themselves on the winning end of a match that went the distance on Wednesday evening inside Hotchkin Arena.
Marian – 2 (27, 29, 21, 21, 15)
MSOE – 3 (25, 27, 25, 25, 17)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The match that occurred at the Kern Center this evening was not for the faint of heart. Three sets went into extra points, including one set where there was a total of 56 points scored. Marian (3-10, 0-1 NACC) was the first to earn a victory in a set during a 27-25 battle. The Sabres notched 15 kills compared to MSOE's (5-7, 1-0 NACC) 11, but had two less errors. The second set also went MU's way, winning the back and forth battle of a 29-27 frame.
Down 2-0, the Raiders kicked it into high gear. Stellar play forced the Sabres to hit in the negatives during both the third and fourth sets, with the Raiders tallying 23 kills in a pair of 25-21 wins. The match, like so many before, came down to the fifth and final set. MSOE committed five errors in the shortened format but nailed down three more kills than the Sabres. Marian had the Red & White down 8-5, before MSOE rallied off three straight points to tie the game. Again, the Sabres managed a two-point lead at 13-11, but the Raiders won the next seven of nine points for the 17-15 NACC conference opening victory.
- Six different Red & White players registered at least six kills.
- Both Grace Brock and Amanda Yackley reached double digits in assists with 22 and 14 respectively.
- Out of the 13 players that saw the court tonight, all but three recorded a dig.
