STEVENS POINT, Wis. – MSOE women's volleyball was looking to make it three wins out of their last four games when they took on UW-Oshkosh tonight on a neutral court. The Raiders played a five setter once again, but just barely missed out on the win on day one of the UW-Stevens Point Pointers Invitational.
MSOE – 3 (22, 18, 27, 25, 15)
UW-Oshkosh – (25, 25, 25, 22, 17)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Though the first two sets weren't as close as they were in the game against Marian on Wednesday, MSOE (5-8, 1-0 NACC) once again dropped their first two games to put them in a big 0-2 hole. However, what has been said all season held true once again tonight.
The Red & White never count themselves out as they started their comeback during a do or die third frame. UW-Oshkosh (9-3, 1-0 WIAC) took the Raiders, who held the lead for most of the set, to the limit, but two kills and three straight points allowed the game to continue with the 27-25 win. Set four was a little easier, but not by much. The Titans outkilled the Red & White 14-10, but also committed five more errors to bring the Raiders within one shortened set of the match victory with a 25-22 win. UW-O once again put more kills up on the scoreboard than MSOE did in the fifth and final set (11 to 7), but the Raiders still hung in there. The Red & White played catchup for most of the match, and when they finally grabbed the lead at 13-12, the Titans scored the next five of seven points to take the win on Friday evening 17-15.
- The Titans had five players hit at least .333 in the match, good for a .268 team hitting percentage.
- Quinn Borchert continues to be a dynamic offensive player for the Raiders this season. The sophomore is hitting .294, good for seventh best in the NACC. She is also second on the team with an average of 2.27 kills per set.
WHO'S ON DECK
