Baseball Can't Close Door On Dominican Sweep

Schaumburg, Ill. – Sam Crawford (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn Mar) notched his first win of the 2019 season, while Joe Gilpin (New Berlin, Wis./Marquette) had four hits and seven runs scored in the MSOE Raiders conference road opening split against Dominican yesterday afternoon in the Chicago suburbs.

Game One:
MSOE Raiders – 9
Dominican – 2

Game Two:
MSOE Raiders – 6
Dominican – 7

Game one was a lot closer than the final score would make one assume. MSOE (5-13, 2-2 NACC) and Dominican (9-9, 3-1 NACC) were tied 2-2 going into the top of the eighth inning before the Raiders offense opened up the flood gates. The Red & White would go on to score two in the eighth and five in the ninth, with four of the last innings runs going unearned. First baseman Adam Graham (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) knocked in four RBIs and Sam Crawford went the distance, only giving up two runs on six hits in the 9-2 victory for the Raiders.

It looked like the Raiders were on their way to the sweep and a 3-1 record in conference play, but it just wasn't meant to be. MSOE scored four runs in their first two at bats and added another one two innings later before the Stars would pull within one thanks to a four run fourth. The Raiders added an insurance run in the seventh thanks to a Brandon Beauchamp (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) triple to put them up 6-4 heading into the last two innings. The score stayed locked in until the bottom on the ninth. Dominican scored three runs off two hits in their last at bats, scoring on a two run single to left and a bases loaded walk to end the game at 7-6 in favor of the Stars.

The win in game one was Sam Crawford's second complete game of his career. The first took place back April 17, 2017 in a seven-inning game against Marian.

Sam Crawford – 9.0 innings pitched, 9 strikeouts, 6 hits, 2 earned runs
Joe Gilpin – 4 runs, 4 hits, 2 walks, 1 RBI
Brandon Beauchamp – 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 RBI

The Raiders are off until this Friday when they will take on the Spartans of Aurora on the road starting at Noon.
