Falcons Offense Overpowers Raiders Baseball In Sweep

GLENDALE, Wis. – Where there is a will, there is a way. MSOE baseball entered today's doubleheader with Concordia-Wisconsin on the outside looking in at the NACC tournament picture. They aren't eliminated from contention however, but will need some wins and help tomorrow afternoon thanks to a CUW sweep at Henry Aaron Field on Saturday.

Game One
Concordia Wisconsin – 9
MSOE Raiders – 5

Game Two
Concordia Wisconsin – 12
MSOE Raiders –3

It just wasn't a good day for MSOE (11-23, 8-12 NACC) pitching this afternoon, giving up a total of 21 runs to the CUW Falcons (17-18, 13-9 NACC). Things were evenly matched early in game one, with each team scoring a pair of runs in the third inning. The score would stay deadlocked until the top of the sixth when a bases loaded sacrifice fly and walk plated two for the Falcons to push them ahead. CUW scored two more in the seventh before an MSOE rally put the Raiders within one thanks to a three-run Nick Gross (Brookfield, Wis. / Marquette) homer. Unfortunately, Concordia-Wisconsin got those runs back right away in the eighth with no rebuke from the Raiders, leading to the 9-5 defeat.

The Red & White were never really a factor in the second game of the doubleheader. The Falcons scored three in the third and two in the fourth to go up 5-0. The Raiders once again tried to rally with another three-run inning, this time off a bases clearing double from Nick Stricker (Mundelein, Ill. / Mundelein) , but that would be all the offense they could muster. CUW sealed the deal with seven runs in the top of the ninth inning, punching their ticket to the NACC tournament with the 12-3 win.

This afternoon was the first time that the Falcons have swept the Raiders since May 2, 2017, when CUW beat MSOE by the scores of 8-5 and 4-6.

Nick Gross – 1 run, 5 hits, 4 RBIs
Brandon Beauchamp (Neenah, Wis. / Neenah) – 3 runs, 2 hits
Nick Stricker – 2 hits, 4 RBIs

The Raiders will host Wisconsin Lutheran tomorrow afternoon for their regular season finale. There will be a bit of scoreboard watching however, as the sixth and last spot for the NACC tournament is still up for grabs between MSOE and Illinois Tech.
