MILWAUKEE – The Kern Center was packed and ready to cheer on the MSOE hockey team in their first game of the regular season. Let's just say that the Raiders gave those in attendance a lot to cheer for. The Red & White scored five goals as they knocked off a St. Thomas team that has been receiving votes in the national poll.
(RV) St. Thomas – 2
MSOE – 5
HOW IT HAPPENED
The start of tonight's game seemed to be shot out of a cannon based on the first scores between the two teams. (RV) St. Thomas (0-1-0) scored just over one minute into the first period, but MSOE (1-0-0) was not going to let them show them up on their home ice. Matt Hanewall got it right back just 14 seconds later to even the score at 1-1. The Raiders weren't done, however. Adam Czarnecki and Kevin Shand both scored before the first intermission to put the Raiders up 3-1. Only one goal was scored in the second period and it belonged to the Red & White. Jeff Makowski buried the puck for a power play goal at 14:21 to give MSOE a commanding 4-1 lead. Christian Sabin made it 5-1 late in the third, with the Tommies getting a bad bounce goal with one second remaining. It was an impressive performance from the Raiders who get the 5-2 win.
WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders will be right back at it tomorrow afternoon, taking on Concordia-Moorhead inside the Kern Center starting at 2:05 pm.
