MILWAUKEE – When something is so nice, sometimes you go to do it twice. The (RV) MSOE hockey team moved to 4-0-0 on the young season with their second straight 3-1 victory over Northland on Saturday evening at home.
Northland – 1
(RV) MSOE – 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
(RV) MSOE (4-0-0) took control of the game early against their former conference rivals, as the Raiders tallied two goals in the first period. Spence Van Tiem scored his first goal of his Raider career to make it 1-0 good guys, with the assist going to both Kyle Herbster and Will Gauthier. The Red & White added another one right before the period expired when Jeff Makowski set up Matt Hanewall at 19:32. Northland (0-2-0) didn't want to be left out on the goal scoring fun though. They netted the only goal of the second period at 12:48 to cut the Raiders lead in half. The threat didn't last long, however. Nigel Nelson also scored his first collegiate goal at 3:01 in the third, with David Marabella and Evan Kearns helping out on the insurance goal. Logan Halladay was strong once again in net for the Raiders, stopping 30 shots as the Red & White take home their fourth straight win.
- One thing that wasn't working for the Raiders this weekend was their power play. They went a combined 0-14 in the two games against the Jacks but succeed on the other end with a 10-10 penalty kill.
- The "Freshman Connection" is real. All three goals tonight were scored by underclassmen and newcomer Matt Hanewall leads all Raiders with four goals on the season.
