MEQUON, Wis. – Mother Nature proved to be an issue this week for the Raiders men's soccer team. What was supposed to be a home game became a virtual away contest, but even that didn't phase MSOE as they blow past Concordia Wisconsin and advance in the NACC men's soccer tournament.
#5 Concordia Wisconsin – 1
#4 MSOE – 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
All was quiet in the first half of this afternoon's match, which was played on the campus of Concordia Wisconsin (13-5-1, 7-3-1 NACC) even though MSOE (10-6-2, 7-3-1 NACC) was the home team. This was the case because of the snow that fell late in the workweek that made Viets Field unplayable for this contest. Regardless, neither team scored which made an already tense situation even more so. The Falcons were the ones to break the stalemate at 50:53, putting CUW up 1-0. The Falcons had the lead, but they weren't going to hold onto that for long. The Red & White struck back with a vengeance, scoring three unanswered goals in the span of ten minutes. It started with Lucas D'Amato scoring unassisted at the 57' mark before Danny Scheel buried a Drew Baumann pass and Joey Schauer scored another unassisted goal four minutes apart from each other to give the Raiders a commanding 3-1. The Raider defense prevented the Falcon offense from doing anything productive in the final 20 minutes, as MSOE moves on to face regular season co-champion Dominican on Tuesday afternoon.
WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders will now play in the NACC semifinals against Dominican on Tuesday. That match, which will take place in River Forest, Ill., kicks off at 1:00 pm.
