PHILADELPHIA – The MSOE rowing team saw its Lightweight 4 boat advance to the grand final for the third-straight year at the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta Saturday.
The Raiders battled tough weather conditions in the final, taking sixth in a time of 7:28.846. The boat of seniors Jonathan Allen, Mike Dorus, Tim Urbas and junior Caleb Vredenbregt, with senior Liz Kelnhofer as the coxswain had posted the top times in the first and semifinal rounds. They won their opening heat in 6:31.383 and was victorious in the semifinal heat in 6:50.327.
The Lightweight 4 took second in the finals in 2012 and fourth in 2013.
MSOE had its Men's 2 boat advance to the semifinals and also competed in the Heavyweight 4 and the Novice 4. Juniors Marty Bridge and Eric Gardner formed the team's pair and took third in their opening heat in 7:19.483. In the semifinals, they took fifth in 7:55.378 and finished 14th overall out of 31 teams.
The Heavyweight 4 suffered an equipment malfunction and finished third in its heat with a time of 6:52.677. Meanwhile, the Novice/Freshman 4 was third in its heat, as well, finishing in 6:49.885.
