ROCKFORD, Illinois – Senior Jared Koser won the Open Novice 1 as the MSOE rowing team competed in three races at the Head of the Rock Regatta Sunday on the Rock River.
The Raiders also had a pair of entries in both the Collegiate 4 and Collegiate 8 races.
Koser posted a time of 19:49.696 to beat his competition in the race by nearly 37 seconds. He jumped out to a big lead by the midway point of the race, already holding a lead near his final margin of victory and then matched his opponent stroke for stroke to the end.
MSOE's top crew finish was an eighth-place showing by its 'A' boat in the Collegiate 8. That group posted a time of 14:35.803 and finished behind crews from Michigan, Minnesota, Purdue and Notre Dame, among others. A second entry into the race finished in 17th place with a time of 15:22.548.
In the Collegiate 4, the Raiders' two boats were 11th and 13th in the race and just about 13 seconds apart at the end. The 'A' crew posted a time of 15:56.542 and was actually in 7th place at the 2400-meter mark before fading a bit down the stretch. The team's second boat in the race finished strong, making up just over a second of time on its teammate over the final half and finished in 16:09.352.
This was the final race before the culmination of MSOE's fall schedule, Oct. 22-23 at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Masssachusetts.
