MILWAUKEE - Junior Emily Snow and freshman Lorrin Pondo of the MSOE softball team swept the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference weekly awards for March 26, the league office announced late Monday.
Snow was named the NACC Player of the Week and Pondo the NACC Pitcher of the Week as the Raiders went 4-0 last weekend with sweeps of Carthage and Beloit to run their winning streak to five straight. The awards are the second for each this season as Snow and Pondo also swept the awards on March 5.
Snow continued her torrid pace at the plate, going 8-for-12 (.667) at the plate with four doubles, a triple, four RBIs, and six runs scored. She was 3-for-3 with a double and triple in game one vs. Beloit Sunday, driving in a run and scoring twice. She followed that up with another two hits in game two, scoring two more times and driving in a pair of runs. The weekend pace extended her hitting streak to 12-straight games and her streak of games reaching base safely to 51 consecutive games.
Pondo went 2-0 with a save, two shutouts, and 30 strikeouts over 16.0 innings in three appearances (two starts). She struck out 11 in game one at Carthage Saturday, allowing just five hits in a 4-0 shutout. She then struck out three more in a two-inning relief appearance in game two to pick up the save. Saturday, Pondo struck out 16 in another 4-0 shutout, this time a three-hitter against Beloit. Her 16 strikeouts are a school record for a seven-inning game.
The Raiders are 11-3 on the season and start league play Saturday, hosting Concordia Chicago at MSOE Athletic Field.
