Women's Basketball Drops First Game in Dallas

RICHARDSON, Texas – The MSOE women's basketball team returned to the court after a 16-day layoff with a 63-45 loss to Hendrix on the opening day of the UT-Dallas Classic Friday afternoon at the UTD Activity Center.

The Raiders (6-3) saw their five-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Warriors (5-4), who pulled away with a 19-10 scoring edge in the second quarter.

Senior Holly Denfeld led MSOE with 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Senior Lizzy Hilby added eight points and sophomore Brooke Scott had eight points and six rebounds off the bench.

Three players reached double-figures in scoring for Hendrix, with a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double by Sara Dyslin leading the way. Heather Prowse added 13 points and Leah Smith chipped in 13 in a reserve role.

The Warriors outscored the Raiders in each quarter, but it was the Red & White which seized control early in the game. After conceding the first five points of the game, MSOE rattled off nine-straight points for its largest lead of the game at 9-5 with just under four minutes to play in the opening frame.

Hendrix would respond with the final nine points of the period as part of a 15-0 run to take the lead for good. The aforementioned advantage in the second quarter built a 32-19 halftime lead the Raiders could not overcome.

MSOE shot 34 percent in the game, including 3-for-17 from three-point range. The Warriors shot 42.3 percent from the field, hitting on just two 3-pointers, but went 17-of-22 at the free throw line. The Red & White managed just 12 trips to the charity stripe, making eight.

The Raiders wrap up the UT-Dallas Classic against the host Comets Saturday at 2 p.m.
