KENOSHA, Wis. – Having gone winless in their first three games, the MSOE women's soccer program kept inching closer to that elusive victory with every match played. Well, they finally have a win to show for their efforts. A fortunate goal and stellar defensive work paved their way to win number one on the season.
MSOE – 2
Carthage – 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
The scoring in this contest started in a pretty unusual way. MSOE (1-2-1) was the recipient of an "own goal" at 15' when Carthage (2-2-0) put the ball in their own net, putting the Raiders up 1-0. Caitie LeVasseur added a more conventional score about 14-minutes later when her unassisted goal sailed by the Lady Red's keeper.
Allison Lessila and Abbie Lorenz shared time in the net as usual, with the latter getting the victory for her efforts. The two combined to stop seven of the eight shots that Carthage put on goal, and the Red & White defense shut CC down in the last 20 minutes of play after they scored a goal to bring them within one. The late wave of substitutions from Carthage weren't enough to get some fresh legs out there as the Raiders take this one 2-1.
It's quality not quantity. Carthage opened up target practice in today's game, taking a total of 21 shots. MSOE only have seven but still came away with the "w".
WHO'S ON DECK
