LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Having played less than 30 minutes in the lighting cancelled match against North Park on Wednesday, MSOE women's soccer headed out onto the pitch with fresh legs and a desire to reach the .500 mark for the first time this season. Lake Forest wouldn't go down easily however, but the Red & White weathered the late Foresters push for win number two in 2019.
MSOE – 3
Lake Forest – 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
MSOE (2-2-1) was looking for increased output from their offense in this afternoon's match. The Raiders had scored just three goals coming into their contest against Lake Forest (3-3-1) but matched that number in just 90 minutes. The Red & White took 12 shots in today's ballgame, nine of them being on target. The strong offensive attack paid off at the 30' mark when freshman Caitie LeVasseur scored to make it 1-0, followed by Jade Becknell's first collegiate goal which was set up on a nice pass from Nicole Robb.
The Raiders made it three unanswered with a Jill Ruark goal 65' in, but that would end up being the game winning goal thanks to a late LFC push. The first Foresters goal came at 83:39 to bring them within two. Lake Forest was awarded a penalty kick just a couple of minutes later, and they successfully converted to bring them within one. Keeper Abbie Lorenz faced two more challenges in the time remaining, but thwarted those to preserve the one goal victory.
Caitie LeVasseur scored her second goal of the season in this afternoon's contest. The freshman has taken a team leading 13 shots in five games, with a .462 shots on goal percentage.
