SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE, Va. – The rolling hills and scenic scenes of Virginia welcomed the Raiders to their last regular season race of the season. It was also the last chance they had to get a couple more runners added to their national championship hopes and were successful in doing so with their third-place finish at the East Regional Qualifiers on Saturday morning.
3rd out of 7
It might seem that you are reading what would be the equivalent to a broken record, but Rachel Ruona has been just that good all season long. The senior once again paced the Raider field and came away with another third-place finish to show for it. Ruona's time of 1:07:56 was just 36 seconds off her second consecutive second place result and helped the Raiders qualify all seven allotted athletes for the national championships in November.
- All four of the Raider runners that saw this course last year had a personal best of at least three minutes this time around. This was led by Riley Rossbach's performance, as she cut over nine minutes off her pace from last season.
- Danni Wilcox has been a star on the 5k portion of each race, setting a new season best each time out. At this weekends event, Wilcox was just one second off her lifetime cross country 5k personal record.
It's time to put it all on the line next time out, as the Red & White will compete at the Collegiate Varsity Triathlon National Championships in Tempe, Ariz. on Saturday, November 16th.
