CHICAGO – After dropping an intensely fought battle on Friday night, the Raiders women's volleyball team was back on the court on Saturday trying to redeem themselves. And while they played an extremely close match against the Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Tech to start the morning, they couldn't hang with St. Mary of the Woods and dropped both games on the road.
MSOE – 1 (25, 19, 28, 22)
Illinois Tech – 3 (20, 25, 30, 25)
MSOE – 0 (20, 17, 16)
St. Mary-Woods – (25, 25, 25)
HOW IT HAPPENED
MSOE (7-16, 2-5 NACC) won their first set against Illinois Tech (5-14, 2-5 NACC) on Saturday morning, but unfortunately it would be the only one that they would come away with all afternoon. While neither team was dominate in the first match of the day, the Scarlet Hawks were able to pull away when it mattered. The Raiders were in on every set, including a 30-28 defeat in the third frame, but they just couldn't seal the deal in a 3-1 loss to their NACC foes from Chicago.
Next up was St. Mary's of the Woods, a rare USCAA opponent for MSOE. This battle was a little bit more uneven than the first one of the afternoon, with the Raiders committing 20 errors and hitting just .080. Meanwhile, the Pomeroy's offense hit at a clip of .234 and had 15 service aces compared to just six for the Red & White. SMW hit .485 in the third and final set to send the Raiders back home to Milwaukee 0-2 on the afternoon inside of the Keating Sports Center.
WHO'S ON DECK
The Red & White will look to snap their five-game losing streak on Friday evening inside Hotchkin Arena. There they will find Aurora waiting for them which will serve as the second to last home match of the season.
